“ Joan was very knowledgable and efficient at doing his job. He answered any questions that we had and stayed later in the day until the task was completed.

The Thomas Edison difference

Your Electricians in Lehigh County

Thomas Edison Electric's Lehigh County electricians live and work around the county they serve. Each one is on our payroll and starts from home in a stocked van. Our crews work in Allentown, Bethlehem, Emmaus, Whitehall, Macungie, Coopersburg, Catasauqua and Slatington. Our trucks also reach Breinigsville, Trexlertown, Fogelsville and New Tripoli.

We are a multigenerational, family-owned company, licensed in Pennsylvania under PA075449 and insured. We have completed over 37,000 jobs since 2021, with a 4.8-star rating on Google. The median Lehigh County home dates to 1968, right in the years of aluminum branch wiring and 100-amp panels. Those are jobs we do all the time, with a written quote first and a 24/7 line behind it.

Local by design

Our Lehigh County electricians work for us, not for a subcontractor. Each one keeps a stocked van at home, ready for Allentown or Slatington.

PPL and Met-Ed, handled

We arrange service upgrades, meter bases and disconnects with your utility, not you.

1968-era expertise

Aluminum branch wiring, 100-amp panels and ungrounded outlets are the bread and butter of Lehigh County work. We correct them to code.

Written quotes only

You get the price on paper before anything starts. No surprise pricing.

Late, we waive the fee

Miss the arrival window we promised and the dispatch fee comes off. That is the deal.

24/7, 365

Nights, weekends and holidays, from Allentown to Slatington, we answer the phone and send a licensed electrician.

Electrical Service Across Lehigh County

PPL Electric Utilities is the primary electric utility across Lehigh County, with Met-Ed serving some areas. You might upgrade your service, add an EV charger that pushes past the existing panel, or replace a meter base. Either way, we arrange the disconnect and reconnect with your utility. What the utility owns stops at the meter; what we service starts there.

Lehigh County is part of our everyday rotation. The electricians who cover it are our own people. They start each day from their own homes. We schedule with realistic windows for Allentown and the rest of the county. If we miss the one we gave you, we waive the dispatch fee.

We also serve every county that touches Lehigh: Northampton, Bucks, Montgomery, Berks, Carbon and Schuylkill. You might have a home in Emmaus and a business in Bucks. Or you might have a parent in Coopersburg and a rental in Center Valley. One company can handle both.

Common Electrical Projects in Lehigh County Homes

The median Lehigh County home dates to 1968. That era gave us aluminum branch wiring, 100-amp services and two-prong receptacles. It also meant far fewer circuits than a family uses today. Decades later, those houses in Allentown, Emmaus, Whitehall and Macungie are running central air and an electric dryer. Add a home office and maybe an EV.

These are the jobs we do most in Lehigh County.

None of that is an emergency by default. A safety inspection will tell you which items, if any, need attention now.

Permits, Inspections and Your Utility in Lehigh County

Under Pennsylvania's Uniform Construction Code, each town issues its own electrical permits in Lehigh County. Most of them contract with a third-party inspection agency rather than running a building department. Allentown, Bethlehem, Emmaus and Whitehall can each have a different application, fee schedule and inspector. We know the drill. Pulling the permit and scheduling the inspection are part of every job. Your written quote includes both.

For utility matters, most of the county is PPL Electric Utilities territory and some of it is Met-Ed. Service upgrades and meter base replacements require a disconnect and reconnect on their schedule. We arrange it so your home is without power for the shortest practical time. If your whole street loses power, call your utility. If the problem is inside your house, that is what our 24/7 line is for.

Electrical service

I was really impressed with Don and Engeli and the work they performed for me. We had a discussion on the best way to run the new line for the septic pump and I really appreciated the extra effort they made to keep the esthetic of my home's exterior. They were pleasant and professional and all my fans and lights work great! They were patient and waited until I approved everything. A great team!

Lehigh County Electrical FAQs

Do you have electricians near Allentown and Bethlehem?

Yes. Our Lehigh County electricians live around the area and leave from their own homes in stocked TEE vans. We still do not quote arrival times. Traffic and the previous job are unpredictable. Instead, we give you a realistic window. If we miss it, we waive the dispatch fee.

Does my 1960s Lehigh County home need a new panel for an EV charger?

Maybe. A house built around 1968 often has a 100-amp service. A Level 2 charger is a big new load on top of everything else. We run a load check first. If the existing panel has room, we add the circuit. If not, we quote a 200-amp upgrade in writing and coordinate it with PPL or Met-Ed.

Do you serve the smaller towns like Slatington and New Tripoli?

Yes. Slatington, New Tripoli, Schnecksville, Orefield and Neffs are all part of our Lehigh County coverage. Allentown, Bethlehem, Emmaus and Whitehall are too. Our 24/7 line covers all of them, 365 days a year. The written quote and permit process are identical wherever you are in the county.

Do you handle permits with the city of Allentown?

Yes. Your home might be in Allentown, Bethlehem, or a township like the ones around Trexlertown and Breinigsville. Either way, we pull the electrical permit through the town under the state Uniform Construction Code and schedule the inspection. The cost is in your written quote, and you do not have to contact anyone yourself.
